Cebu is one of my favorite cities in the Philippines. I confess though, there’s still so much to see and eat in that place no matter how many times I’ve visited both for work and for vacation.
One of the must see is the whalesharks in Oslob which is a 3hour drive from Mactan. Yes, there’s a debate on should we or should we not continue making these lovely gentle giants a tourist attraction. I support local eco-tourism and if there’s a best way to keep the locals from killing them and still have their livelihood, then I’m all for that.
Where to stay:
I stayed for 2 nights in Moevenpick Hotel located in Mactan before heading out to Oslob.
Another good hotel especially for the family is Maribago Blue Water.
We took a bus from Mactan to Oslob and stayed in a Pension Inn just near the Whaleshark Center.
What to see in Oslob, Cebu:
Prices vary for foreigners and locals. Remember don’t go too near the butandings!
This is just 5-10 minutes away from the whaleshark center. You can take a habal habal to go down the road or trek it!
The entrance fee is Php20.00
There are historical buildings and churches in Oslob built during the Spanish era in the Philippines. You can find a museum near the church where you will find a short history of the province.
This trip was back in 2013, if I’m not mistaken. Planning to get back and visit the other areas of Cebu! I’ll try to put together a list of things to eat in Cebu too!
