As a traveler, I usually like DIY itineraries but lately I have been discovering a lot of tours run by locals and they are worth the penny. They are not your usual tour bus, amazing race type of itinerary; in fact, most of them can be customized that it feels like you are running your own show. I think the best part is it’s with a local who can really take you around and share you unscripted stories of the place. It’s a good way to really get immersed in the culture and the people. Here you will find a few tours that can be helpful should you want to discover Hong Kong through the eyes of a local!
I’ve been to HongKong a few times but it’s always been about the shopping, the museums, and Disneyland so this time we decided to go more local. Here are a few areas you should discover and find out why HongKong is an all-in-one destination!
- Food Trip with Hong Kong Foodie Tour: Satisfy your hunger and join a walking food tour. You don’t only get to hear the stories of the locals you also get to taste the best of HongKong! We took the Central and Sheung Wan Food Tour focusing on six family-run restaurants and stores. You’ll get to eat noodles, braised pork, dumplings, egg tart and many more so be sure you come hungry! While you’re at it, take photos of the wall arts along the way!

- Hong Kong Pub Crawl: Alcohol is always a good idea, especially when you’re sharing it with the expats who know the area well! Start with some beer and beer pong, meet some new people, and visit 3-4 bars more before ending in a club to dance the night or morning away!

- Wild Hongkong Adventure tour: Explore the other side of HongKong, from beaches to mountains! Take your friends and book a tour with Wild HongKong. We were supposed to go and hike the Dragon’s Back but it was raining hard so we opted to visit Shek O’ Beach and trek a secret spot near it!

- Good Evening Kowloon Tour: If you are tired of the nightlife, join an evening walking tour and get a glimpse of the old HongKong. Visit the old fruit market, an old-school singing parlour, and Temple street. Get the chance to even have your fortune read or go shopping in the night markets!
